Step 1: Prepare Your Microgreens for Growth
Unpack the Microgreens:
Start by carefully opening the clamshell packaging. The clamshell has two clips at each corner; unclip these to lift the lid.
Once opened, cut off the hinged lid and dispose of it in your recycling bin, as it's no longer needed after purchase.
Set Up the Growing Area:
Place the remaining plastic tray containing the microgreens and Rockwool base into a shallow dish. This setup will allow for easy watering and growth observation.
-
Step 2: Water Your Microgreens
Initial Watering:
Pour approximately 3/4 cup of water into the dish containing the microgreens. This amount is sufficient to moisten the Rockwool base without overwatering.
The Rockwool will absorb the water, directing it to the root zone where the microgreens can access it.
Regular Watering Schedule:
Maintain a regular watering schedule, adding water to the dish at least once every 5 to 10 days. The exact frequency may vary based on the humidity and temperature of your environment.
Avoid overwatering by checking if the Rockwool is moist before adding more water.
-
Step 3: Ensure Proper Light and Harvest
Light Exposure:
Position the dish in a location that receives adequate light, such as a windowsill or under a kitchen counter light. Microgreens need sufficient light to continue growing.
Harvesting:
When you are ready to use the microgreens, use scissors to snip what you need directly above the Rockwoil level.
If you notice any seed pods still attached to the leaves, particularly in varieties like sunflowers, gently remove them before consumption.
Continued Care:
Continue to monitor the growth and water levels. Adjust your care routine based on the growth speed and the plant's appearance, ensuring they do not dry out or sit in excessive water.
